sàwatdii ka (^/|^)

Welcome back to our Thai lesson ka :). Today I would like to teach you how to make a request in Thai.

To make a request in Thai we use this pattern;

1. ขอ /kǒr/ +  verb  + (object)  หน่อย /nòi/   =   May I __do something__?

For example;

ขอไปห้องน้ำหน่อยค่ะ / ครับ
/kǒr bpai hông-nám nòi kâ / kráp/
= May I go to the toilet?

ขอดูหน่อยค่ะ / ครับ
/kǒr duu nòi kâ / kráp/
= May I have a look?

ขอยืมดินสอหน่อยค่ะ / ครับ
/kǒr yuum din-sǒr nòi kâ / kráp/
= May I borrow your pencil?

2. ขอ /kǒr/  +  noun   +  หน่อย  /nòi/   =    May I have__something__?

For example;

ขอน้ำหน่อยค่ะ/ ครับ
/kǒr nám nòi kâ / kráp/
= May I have water?

ขอปากกาหน่อยค่ะ / ครับ
/kǒr bpàak-gaa nòi kâ / kráp/
= May I have a pen?

ขอทางหน่อยค่ะ / ครับ
/kǒr taang nòi kâ / kráp/
= May I have the way? (= Excuse me, I need to go out. Use when you find somebody is blocking your way.)

/kǒr mei-nuu nòi kâ/kráp/

= May I have a menu?

***Remember to put ค่ะ /kâ/or ครับ /kráp/ at the end to make it more polite.

Hope you enjoyed! Please keep practicing 🙂
