Thai Language School, Success in Difficult Times
Thai Language Hut is a small specialist 1 to 1 training school for foreigners wanting to learn Thai based in Bangkok Thailand. The small school has been growing phenomenally over the last six month which goes against the market trends both internationally and particularly locally. The school has grown by 60% in a heavily shrinking local market.
Many Thai companies have been releasing their expensive foreign staff and many international companies have been pulling out their foreign workers as the weakening economic cycle has bitten. The market in Thailand is generally depressed and many people are concerned about making longer-term commitments, so to get students to make a commitment to a project which will take 6 months to a year is impressive.
So how have Thai Language Hut achieved this success? By the following approaches:
1. Focusing on renewing existing students – our renewal rate is 75%!
2. Focusing on building specific dedicated programs for individual students
3. Focusing on making training both interesting and varied
Equates to enjoyable and successful training that maximizes the student’s time and is cost effective.
This works as Thai Language Hut only delivers 1 to 1 training (one teacher to one student or small number of students). In fact Thai Language Hut is a specialist at 1 to 1 training. They do not offer scheduled training.
Thai Language Hut has found from experience that learning Thai is most successfully learned by 1 to 1 training. Sounds, pitch, pronunciation and listening can more confidently be learned with a ratio of one teacher to one student. These are items that are particularly hard for westerners to learn and get right and are paramount if you want to be understood correctly in Thailand. Thai is in fact one of the most difficult languages in the world for westerners to learn.
1 to 1 teaching means the student does not have to share the teacher with other students; thus allowing Thai Language Hut to focus on the most important aspect of teaching, the student and the student’s needs only. Items like specific topics of interest to the student that lesson, or reviewing areas which need to be developed can be incorporated with minimum fuss and without holding up other students – or the student being held up by other people. This makes lessons more relevant to the student’s needs and avoids time being wasted. There is another key advantage of 1 to 1 training and that is schedule flexibility. Lessons can be cancelled or schedule changed to fit the needs of the student. Missed lessons are not lost lessons – just rescheduled!
You would think given this high level of attention that this would equate to expensive course costs. Well, actually no. Some basic calculations reveal the true cost of scheduled training to be very expensive compared to 1 to 1 training. Consider a class of 6 people or 10 people – the student will be getting but 1/6 or 1/10 of the teacher’s attention, but the student does not pay 1/6 or 1/10 of the price of 1 to 1 training. Normally, scheduled training is about 50-60% of the prices of Thai Language Hut (Or the price of 1 teacher to 2 students!). Scheduled training often costs between 3,000-5,000 baht for 30 hours – try multiplying the price by 6 or 10 to find the real cost of 1 to 1 training.
Students at Thai Language Hut have realized they are on to a good thing. They get good results in a short time period, do not waste their time covering items of interest to other students and, get all this for a bargain price compared to scheduled training. To add to this students at Thai Language Hut also benefit from different learning delivery options to make their learning more interesting and relevant. This includes the unique Thai Language Hut ‘Walk About’ training and it is no wonder why Thai Language Hut is growing so fast.
