Loy Krathong Festival
Loy Kratong is a special Thai Festival that fall on the 12th month of Thai traditional lunar calendar.
Loy means to float, Krathong means, the small container which made of folded banana leaves and decorated with flowers, incense sticks and candles.
The light of the candle symbolizes the light of truth, the way to start a better new according to the Buddhist religion. People release their Krathong on rivers and lakes and hope this will bring them a good luck.
There are some useful Loy Krathong’s words and phrases below.
สวัสดีค่ะ วันลอยกระทงปีนี้ พระจันทร์เต็มดวงตรงกับวันที่ 3 พฤศจิกายน ในคืนวันศุกร์สุดสัปดาห์พอดี หลายคนก็เริ่มหาสถานที่พบปะฉลองกับเพื่อนพ้องครอบครัวเตรียมพากันไปลอยกระทงกันแล้วใช่ไหมคะ
ลอย หมายถึง “การทรงตัวอยู่ในอากาศ หรือ ผิวน้ำ”
กระทง ในที่นี้ หมายถึง “ภาชนะที่ทำจากลำกล้วยตัดประดับใบตองและตกแต่งด้วยดอกไม้ ปักธุปเทียน เพื่อใช้ลอย”
อนึ่ง แสงเทียนที่สว่างไสว เป็นสัญลักษณ์สำคัญทางศาสนาพุทธศาสนา กล่าวคือ หมายถึง ความจริงถ่องแท้ของชีวิต เพื่อระลึกถึงคุณของ พระพุทธ พระธรรม และพระสงฆ์ ในการนำทางสว่างแห่งปัญญาแลความผาสุขในชีวิต
เมื่อพร้อมกันแล้ว เราก็มาทำความรู้จักกันเลยดีไหมคะว่า เราต้องเตรียมอะไรกันบ้างในวันลอยกระทง

Remark: Normally when Thais say the flower names, we say just “dɔ̀ᴐk” and then use the flower’s name, for example, “Jasmine flower” say ” dɔ̀ᴐk-(máai) má-lí”. หมายเหตุ: เมื่อเวลาใช้ภาษาพูด ชื่อชนิดดอกไม้ ก็ให้ ละคำว่า “ไม้” ทิ้งไป เช่น “ดอกไม้มะลิ” ก็พูดเเค่ว่า ” ดอกมะลิ”
