อยาก | How to use to Want in Thai | Learn Thai Verbs
Hello everyone. This lesson we are going to learn how to say “want” in Thai language.
อยาก….. /yàak/ want to…..
The verb “want” in Thai we say, “อยาก/yàak/”. We always put another verb after it which means “want to + verb” .
For example,
- ฉันอยากเรียน /chán yàak rian/ I want to learn.
- ฉันอยากไปประเทศไทย /chán yàak bpai bprà-têet thai/ I want to go to Thailand.
อยากได้ …… /yàak dâi/ want something
In case you want to say that you “want something”, you can use “yàak dâi + something” which literally means “want to get + something”.
For example,
- ฉันอยากได้ปากกา /chán yàak dâi bpàak-gaa/ I want a pen. (Literally: I want to get a pen.)
- เขาอยากได้นาฬิกา /káo yàak dâi naa-lí-gaa/ He/She wants a watch. (Literally: He/She wants to get a watch.)
เอา /ao/ to want, to take
Another option of “to want + something” is “ao” which means “to want, to take”. But “ao” is more often use when you order something food or something at the shop.
For example,
- เอาเป๊ปซี่ค่ะ /ao bpép-sîi kâ/ I want Pepsi please.
- เอาต้มยำกุ้งครับ /ao dtôm-yam-gûng kráp/ I want Dtom Yam Gung please.
Notice: We always use อยาก “yàak” with verbs and we use “ao” with objects. We do not use ao with the verbs.
For example,
If you want to say “I want to learn Thai language”,
Do say: ฉัน/ผม อยากเรียนภาษาไทย [chán/ pom yàak rian paa-sǎa thai]
Do not say: ฉัน/ผม เอาเรียนภาษาไทย [chán/ pom ao rian paa-sǎa tha]
