Si | Command Thai Particle Word

Maybe you will hear the word “สิ” /sì/ when you talk to Thai people and wonder what it means. Actually “สิ” /sì/ is a particle word that you can use in some context…

A) It is used as an imperative particle to make a command or urge somebody to do something.

For example,

1. มาเร็วๆ สิ /maa reo reo sì/
Come quickly! Hurry up!

2. ตั้งใจเรียนหน่อยสิ /dtâang-jai rian nɔ̀ɔi sì/
Please intend to study!

B) It is used to emphasise your confirmation

1. A: คุณจะไปด้วยกันไหม /kun jà bpai dûay-gan mái/
Will you go together (with me)?

B: ไปสิ /bpai sì/
Yes, sure! (I will go).

2. A: คุณอยากเรียนภาษาไทยกับฉันไหม /kun yàak rian paa-sǎa thai gàp chán mái?/

Do you want to learn the Thai language with me?

B: อยากสิ /yàak sì/

Yes, sure! (I want to learn).

3. A: มารับฉันบ่ายโมงได้ไหม /maa ráp chán bàai moong dâi mái?/

Can you come to pick me up at 1 pm?

B: ได้สิ /dâi sì/

Yes, sure! (I can).
