How to use
the Thai Verb
To Like
Hello everybody!
How are you?
In this short Thai lesson we will learn about the Thai verb, ชอบ /chɔ̂ɔp/
I am really sure that every Thai learner must know this word as it is one of the first words learned. Lets look at some examples of how to use this verb correctly:
For example:
ผม / ฉันชอบคุณ /pǒm chɔ̂ɔp kun/
I like you.
เราชอบอาหารไทย /rao chɔ̂ɔp aa-hǎan thai/
We like Thai food.
คุณชอบพูดภาษาไทยไหม /kun chɔ̂ɔp pûut paa-sǎa thai mái?/
Do you like to speak Thai?
But the word ชอบ /chɔ̂ɔp/ also has another meaning. It is used to describe when someone repeats doing something many times or always does that thing as a part of their habit.
For example:
ทำไมเขาชอบมาสาย /tam-mai káo chɔ̂ɔp maa sǎai?/
Why does he always come late?
เขาชอบเปลี่ยนใจวินาทีสุดท้าย /káo chɔ̂ɔp bplìan-jai wí-naa-tii sùt-táai/
He/ She always changes his/ her mind at the last second!
ผม/ ฉันชอบปวดหัวตอนกินกาแฟ /pǒm (chán) chɔ̂ɔp bpùat-hǔa dtɔɔn gin gaa-fɛɛ/
I always have a headache when I drink coffee.
