To Be Sure

In this lesson, I would like to teach you about the word “sure”.

To say “sure” in Thai is แน่ใจ /nɛ̂ɛ jai/

For example

ฉันแน่ใจว่าเขาจะมาประเทศไทยอาทิตย์นี้ /chán nɛ̂ɛ jai wâa káo jà maa bprà-têet thai aa-tít nií/
I am sure that he will come to Thailand this week.

เราไม่แน่ใจเกี่ยวกับโครงการนั้น /rao mâi nɛ̂ɛ jai gìaw-gàp kroong-gaan nán/
We are not sure about that project.

But if you would like to say “sure” as in the confirmation answer as “of course” or “yes, sure”, in Thai we say “แน่นอน /nɛ̂ɛ nɔɔn/

For example

A: คุณจะไปงานวันเกิดของเขาไหม /kun jà bpai ngaan wan-gә̀әt kɔ̌ɔng káo mái?/
Will you go to his birthday party?

B: แน่นอน /nɛ̂ɛ nɔɔn/
Yes, sure!

A: คุณจำทางไปโรงแรมได้ใช่ไหม /kun jam taang bpai roong-rɛɛm dâi châi mái?/
You remember the way to the hotel, don’t you?

B: แน่นอน /nɛ̂ɛ nɔɔn/
Yes, of course!
