How to use So or Therefore in Thai
Sawatdii ka.
In this short Thai lesson, we will learn about the Thai conjunction, ก็เลย /gɔ̂-lәәi/.
ก็เลย /gɔ̂-lәәi/ means so or therefore. The pattern of ก็เลย /gɔ̂-lәәi/ in Thai is:
Subject1 + Verb + Object ( Subject2 ) ก็เลย /gɔ̂-lәәi/ + V + O
Notice: The subject of the second sentence is before ก็เลย /gɔ̂-lәәi/. In case the subject in the first and the second sentence are the same person, the one in front of ก็เลย /gɔ̂-lәәi/ can be omitted.
For example:
ฝนตกฉันก็เลยไม่อยากไปข้างนอก
/fǒn-dtòk, chán gɔ̂-lәәi mâi yàak bpai kâang-nɔ̂ɔk/
It is raining so I do not want to go outside.
เมื่อวานเขาไม่สบาย (เขา)ก็เลยไม่มาทำงาน
/mûa-waan káo mâi sà-baai (káo) gɔ̂-lәәi mâi maa tam-ngaan/
Yesterday he was sick so he did not go to work.
ผมจะไปงานวันเกิดเพื่อน (ผม)ก็เลยอยากไปซื้อของขวัญก่อน
/pǒm jà bpai ngaan wan-gә̀әt pûan (pǒm) gɔ̂-lәәi yàak bpai súu kɔ̌ɔng-kwǎn gɔ̀ɔn/
I will go to my friend’s birthday party so I want to go to buy a gift first.
