Valentine’s Day in Thailand
Hi. What is your plan for this coming Valentine’s Day?
People who have a boyfriend or girlfriend may have planned to spend some romantic time together. Or people who are single might go party with friends.
Let’s see what they going to do in Thailand. In Thailand, many people have adapted this Western Cultural activity. Thais like any excuse for a party and this is no exception.
1. แต่งงาน /dtɛ̀ɛng-ngaan/ Get married
Many couples go to register the marriage at the office or arrange a wedding party because they believe that Valentine’s Day, the day of love, would be a good day for their couple life. Or some men propose to girls on this day also.
2. อาหารเย็นสุดโรแมนติก /aa-hǎan-yen sùt-roo-man-dtìk/ A romantic dinner
Many couples go out for a special dinner with a nice atmosphere, candlelight and soft music.
3. เซอร์ไพร์สด้วยดอกไม้ /səə-prái dûai dɔ̀ɔk-mái/ Surprise by flowers
Some boyfriends surprise their girlfriend with a big bouquet of roses or flowers which have a good meaning about love.
4. ให้ของขวัญ /hâi kɔ̆ɔng-kwǎn/ Give a gift
May girls give a little gift to her boyfriend as well such as chocolate, necktie, sweet.
5. ไปปาร์ตี้กับเพื่อน /bpai bpaa-tîi gàp pʉ̂an/ Party with friends
Seems like this is more for single people. Many people go to a party with friends, enjoy their single life. It is a good time to stay with friends as well.
6. การขอแต่งงาน /gaan-kɔ̆ɔ dtɛ̀ɛng-ngaan/ Marriage proposal
Propose Marriage to their loved one.
แต่งงาน /dtɛ̀ɛng-ngaan/ = to get married
ขอแต่งงาน /kɔ̌ɔ-dtɛ̀ɛng-ngaan/ = to propose
อาหารเย็น /aa-hǎan-yen/ = dinner
โสด /sòht/ = to be single
เพื่อน /pûan/ = friend
